Ilulissat is already Greenland’s leading tourist destination, and with the planned establishment of a new transatlantic airport north of the city as well as a visitor’s centre, the Icefjord Centre, located at the unique Icefjord and designed with a world-class architecture, expectations for the future are high – and so are the ambitions and the will to implement
this development.
The purpose of this booklet is thus to set the framework for a discussion on how these unique development potentials can be approached and exploited.
Urban development - Ilulissat Nord, can be seen here(i .pdf format).
The overall perspective is the development of a new district north of Ilulissat around Imersuaq / Water Lake and on Nuugaarsuk / Nordre Næs. In addition, it is possible to establish a new port and commercial area at Kangerluarsuk / Brede Bay close to the future airport.
In the longer term, the city could potentially develop on land north of Kangerluarsuk / Brede Bay.
