Improving ease of access to Avannaata Spatial Planning Portal and the town plan

Avannaata town council wants the Spatial Planning Portal and the town plan to be accessible to as many as possible.

We want as many as possible to be able to familiarise themselves with the plans, whether they require text to be read aloud, require larger font sizes, or require help with other ease-of-access functions on computers and tablets.

Have the text read aloud:

You can have the text read aloud in Greenlandic, Danish and English.

Hear the text read aloud in Greenlandic:

  • First, download and install the voice Martha here: http://www.atuffat.gl/Voice_gl.aspx.
    • The guideline is available in Greenlandic and Danish, not in English.
  • Martha is a synthetic Greenlandic voice that is used to transform text into speech. Martha is not a reading program as such, but can be used with speech functions in various programs to read text aloud. For instance, you can use the voice with the reading function in Word, or in other reading programs.
    • For instance, you can download the free reading program Balabolka here: http://www.cross-plus-a.com/balabolka.htm. Balabolka is a text-to-speech program that can read using all computer voices installed on your system. The program can read the content of the clipboard on your computer. Just mark the text you want to have read and copy it to your clipboard. You can also save the text as a WAV, MP3, MP4, OGG or WMA file for later use as sound files.

At this link, http://www.atuffat.gl/Voice_gl.aspx, you can download Martha and watch videos on how to install Martha:

  • Martha for Microsoft Windows
  • Martha for Apple OS X
  • Martha for Apple iOS
  • Martha for Google Android.
    • Documentation of Martha is available in Greenlandic, Danish and English.

Have Anne read your text – the synthetic Danish voice:

  • At www.adgangforalle.dk, you can download the free remote control. The Adgangforalle.dk remote control is a free program that allows you to have text that can be marked and copied read aloud.
  • The Adgangforalle.dk remote control is available for:
    • Microsoft Windows
    • Linux
    • MacOS
    • Chromebook.

Hear the text read aloud in English:

  • You can download the free reading program Balabolka here: http://www.cross-plus-a.com/balabolka.htm.
    • Balabolka is a text-to-speech program that can read using all computer voices installed on your system. The program can read the content of the clipboard on your computer. Just mark the text you want to have read and copy it to your clipboard. You can also save the text as a WAV, MP3, MP4, OGG or WMA file for later use as sound files.

Improving ease-of-access through better display settings and other options:

 Windows:

Mac:

iPhone, iPad and iPod touch:

  • iOS on your iPhone, iPad and iPod touch allows you to activate/deactivate a range of ease-of-access functions using the Home button, the side button or the Control Center.
  • Further guidance is available here: https://support.apple.com/da-dk/HT204390.
    • The website is available in Danish and English, not in Greenlandic.

Android:

  • The Android system – whether you have an LG G3, Galaxy S4 or Nexus 5 – offers a range of settings to accommodate visually impaired users and other settings, which can make your Android hard to operate normally.
  • Further guidance is available here: https://support.google.com/accessibility/android/answer/6007100?hl=da, http://dk.universalbuyingscreenreplacementde.com/info/android-accessibility-settings-5-hidden-optio-19396493.html and via standard Google searches.
    • Guidelines are available in Danish and English, not in Greenlandic. You can use the synthetic voice Martha to have the text read aloud.
